Lace: fabric playing with light

I just need you to know how much I love lace.

I love holding it. I love painting it. I love printing with it. I love finding ways to sew it into fancy dresses. I love it on parasols. I love finding it in charity shops. I love it wound on to rolls in the haberdashery, and I nearly passed out with excitement at my first visit to the bridal lace section in MacCulloch & Wallis in London!

There's something special about the way light comes through lace that gives it an almost lifelike quality. I love thinking that delicate natural structures are nature's lace, such as filigree leaf skeletons, tangles of roots, veins in an insect wing, spiderwebs and so on. They are beautiful and complex patterns that adorn the connection and the flow of life.
