An introduction to Linocut printmaking

Linocut is a printmaking process where a design is carved into the surface of a lino block, inked up and then transferred to paper using a press or by burnishing by hand.

The 3 hour linocut workshop includes:

Demonstrations of each step in the printmaking process

Guidance and help creating your own lino block: techniques for using the tools, mark making, inking up

Proofing and refining your block (test printing)

Printing a final edition of 5 prints on to blank cards or printmaking paper using professional quality relief printing inks

Refreshments

Your lino block and all your own prints will be yours to keep after the workshop. Materials to create one lino block and print an edition of 5 prints are included in the price of your workshop. If you would like to make additional prints or lino designs (time permitting) you can buy more materials during your workshop.

There are just 4 spaces in each workshop. Advance booking is essential.

Please note, linocut involves carving by hand and although you do not need perfect coordination, some strength and dexterity is essential (e.g. able to peel potatoes, use a craft knife etc). If you are unsure if this workshop is suitable for you please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss.

Gemma did a workshop for my 4 boys (aged 2 to 10 years). She managed to find a level on which each of them could participate and they all really enjoyed their time and were excited by what they had been able to achieve. I highly recommend Gemma to you.
